Friday Night Speaker: Jim
Ince
Jim
Ince
has been a falconer since the
early 1960's flying a variety
of hawks and falcons including
kestrels, red-tails, cooper’s
hawks, goshawks, merlins, a
golden eagle and anatum and
tundra peregrines. Jim was a
charter member of the THA and
its first Western Director. He
also served as NAFA
Vice-President from 2000-2004
and was a long time member of
the TP&W Raptor and
Falconry Council. Jim was one
of the very few falconers in
the Houston area sponsoring a
number of falconers over the
years since the sport was
regulated.
In
1970
Jim took a summer trip to
Europe. He visited and became
friends with a number of well
known falconers including Jack
Mavrogordato, Ronald Stevens,
and Roger Upton. Jim's
presentation will be related
to that trip and will also
include some interesting
historical highlights.
We
are privileged to have him speak
to the club.

Keynote Speaker: Gary
Brewer
For many years, the
name Gary Brewer has been
synonymous with
red-tailed hawks and squirrel hawking.
A long time friend of the THA, Gary is
the author of Buteos and
Bushytails, the definitive text
on squirrel hawking.
Additionally, Gary has written a
number of articles on weight control,
red-tailed hawks, general training
techniques, husbandry, problem solving
and other topics. Gary has flown
a variety of hawks and falcons, but
has spent the last several decades
concentrating on red-tails, with his
principal quarry being squirrels in
the east Texas woods. Mr.
Brewer's talks are always entertaining
and informative. On banquet night
(Saturday) you will not want to miss
the chance to hear a real master talk
about his craft.
